PE & CCA
Physical Education (PE) plays an important role in the physical growth and development of children. The purpose of PE is to enable pupils to demonstrate individually and with others the physical skills, practices and values to enjoy a lifetime of active, healthy living. Thus, we must provide opportunities for pupils to be equipped with the skills, knowledge and motivation to continue being active and healthy through life. A well-implemented curriculum will result in our pupils living better… for life!
Goals of Physical Education
1. Acquire a range of movement skills to participate in a variety of physical activities.
2. Understand and apply movement concepts, principles and strategies in a range of physical activities.
3. Demonstrate safe practices during physical and daily activities with respect to themselves, others and the environment.
4. Display positive personal and social behavior across different experiences.
5. Acquire and maintain health-enhancing fitness through regular participation in physical activities.
6. Enjoy and value the benefits of living a physical active and healthy life.
Olympic Motto and Olympic Values
In PE @ GRPS, we embrace the Olympic Motto as part of Character Development in Physical Education. ‘Citius, Altius, Fortius’ which means ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’, anchors the mentality of each pupil as they embark on their journey in school. It also echoes the philosophy of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the Modern Olympic Movement - “…Not the triumph, but the struggle”.
Pupils are given opportunities in PE lessons where they learn problem-solving, developing care and concern for others, managing emotions and self-discipline. These social-emotional competencies and life skills enable them to face life’s challenges as they manifest tenacity and resilience in the environment they are placed in.

We also inculcate the 3 Core Olympic Values in PE @ GRPS. We believe through these values, our pupils will develop to be Gracious, Responsible and Public-Spirited.

This value stands for giving one's best on the field of play. It is not only about winning, but also about participating, making progress against personal goals, striving to be and to do our best in our daily lives and benefiting from the healthy combination of a strong body, mind and will.
This value encourages us to consider sport as a tool for mutual understanding among individuals and people from all over the world. The Olympic Games inspire humanity to overcome economic, gender, racial or religious differences and forge friendships in spite of those differences.
This value incorporates respect for oneself, one's body, for others, for the rules and regulations, for sport and the environment. Related to sport, respect stands for fair play and for any unethical behavior.
